Dental Lasers -
Once Science Fiction Now
State of the Art
Laser light as medical therapy was thought of as unrealistic and fantastic only a few years ago. A lot has changed in dentistry and we are on the crest of a wave that is bringing laser therapy to patients of a modern, mainstream practice. Many of us have heard of laser therapy for skin disorders and eye surgeries, but what can lasers do for teeth and gums?
The DIAGNODENT LASER is a device that uses laser light to detect tooth decay. It shines a low intensity laser light from a battery powered base through the surface of a tooth. When the laser light encounters tooth decay, it recognizes a change in wavelength and displays the amount of decay on a small screen. By detecting tooth decay before it becomes a large cavity or hole in the tooth, we are able to treat decay more conservatively.

The MILLENIUM LASER is a highly sophisticated treatment option for patients with periodontal disease. Laser light is directed between the tooth and gums to stimulate the healing of periodontal tissues lost from periodontitis. This healing process is called Laser Assisted New Attachment Procedure, or LANAP for short. Our dentists have treated hundreds of patients using the LANAP procedure. We often see dramatic improvements in gums that have not previously responded to traditional periodontal therapies.

The DEKA LASER (pictured top lefrt) is the workhorse of oral surgery and cosmetic gum surgery in a modern dental office. Our Deka laser is used for things as gentle as removing a small bump on the inside of the mouth and as complicated as exposing impacted wisdom teeth. The laser light often helps speed up the healing process. Surgeries using the Deka laser are often cleaner, quicker, and less traumatic for patients than use of traditional scalpels and sutures.
